One day training on “Disability Equality” organized by SPDA (Special Person Development Association) with the collaboration of U.S education foundation Pakistan (U.S embassy). On 7th November 2015 SPDA (Special Person Development Association) has organized one day training on “Disability Equality “

There were about 30 persons including Male and Female Teachers, Persons with disabilities and their parents, Local Govt.  Officials and project staff have participated in this training

Disability Equality Training (DET) 04After this the questionnaire about disability equality has been given to the participant in order to find views of the participants regarding disability. Most of the participants were unable to define disability. The questioner   been given to the participants has been collected. The first session has started on disability by Ihsan Ullah Daudzai. He asked the question from the participants that what you know about disability.

Disability Equality Training (DET) 05 After discussion on disability definition according to the UN convention, after detailed discussion he told that disability is not in any individual but it depends upon the environment in which the persons with disabilities are living.

Disability Equality Training (DET) 06 The 2nd session has started by Ihsan Ullah Daudzai about accessibility. The trainer defined accessibility with examples .He described that accessibility means easy to reach, easy to enter, easy to move and easy to use, Ihsan has described the importance of accessibility for the persons with disabilities.

After the 2nd session there was a group activity. The participants were divided in three different groups and tasks were assigned to them.

Disability Equality Training (DET) 03After group work the group leaders has presented the problems faced by visual impaired, physical and speech and hear impaired persons. They have also presented the solutions of the problems been arises in the group activity.

The Training was very much appreciated by all the Participants

Some of the participants gave  their Feedback on the session that this the first time that we realised that Disability is  nothing but its  different style of life, attention of the Participants  during all the session  was remarkable

Detailed description of activity conducted:

Introduction:

On day training on “Disability Equality” organized by SPDA (Special Person Development Association) with the collaboration of U.S education foundation Pakistan (U.S embassy).

Disability Equality Training (DET) 07On 7th November 2015 SPDA (Special Person Development Association) has organized one day training on “Disability Equality “ with the collaboration of U.S education foundation Pakistan( U.S embassy ) at Govt. Blind School G.T road near Nishtar Abad Peshawar .The training has started with the recitation of Holy Quran .The participants have introduce theirselves . There were about 30 persons including Male and Female Teachers, Persons with disabilities and their parents, Local Govt.  Officials and project staff have participated in this training .The chief guest was Town 1 Nazim Peshawar Mr. Zahid Nadeem .

After this the questionnaire about disability equality has been given to the participant in order to find views of the participants regarding disability. Most of the participants were unable to define disability. The questioner   been given to the participants has been collected. The first session has started on disability by Ihsan Ullah Daudzai. He asked the question from the participants that what do you know about disability. After the collection of the views of all participants Ihsan Ullah Daudzai has explained the definition of disability to the participants. After discussion on disability definition according to the UN convention, after detailed discussion he told that disability is not in an any individual but it depends upon the environment in which the persons with disabilities are living. For example, if a building been constructed have no ramps for the wheelchair users they cannot enter into that building. So if this building been made accessible than the wheelchair users can easily enter into that building. He has given several other examples for explanation. The trainer also told to the participants about impairment and gave some solutions for the prevention of disability. Ihsan also explained disability management and community based rehabilitation.

The 2nd session has started by Ihsan Ullah Daudzai about accessibility. The trainer defined accessibility with examples .He described that accessibility means easy to reach, easy to enter, easy to move and easy to use, Ihsan has described the importance of accessibility for the persons with disabilities. He also told that accessibility is a right of every individual in the society and it is a key factor of inclusion. Furthermore he discussed the accessibility issues and put forward their solutions.

After the 2nd session there was a group activity. The participants were divided in three different groups and tasks were assigned to them.

1st  group : A non-disable person choose by the trainer and told him to sit in the wheelchair and go outside to different places  and one person was pushing   the wheelchair while other group members were observers, they were observing and noting the difficulties facing by the wheelchair user. The wheelchair user went to bathroom but it was inaccessible. Similarly, they went to other places as well and faced the same problems.

2nd group: A non-disable women has chosen by the trainer and tied her eyes with a ribbon and one person was her attendant and told them to go outside. Other group members were observers, , they were observing and noting the difficulties facing by the women who were unable to see. She also went to different places and faced many problems because of inaccessibility.

3rd group: A non-disabled person has suppose to be speech and hearing impaired. The objective was to find out the problems being facing by speech and hear impaired person. One non-disabled person started to talk with him but the communication was not successful because he was unable to understand their massage. The problem was that there was no sign language interpretations present there to convey their massage to speech and hear impaired person.

After group work the group leaders has presented the problems faced by visual impaired, physical and speech and hear impaired persons. They have also presented the solutions of the problems been arises in the group activity.

The 3rd session was about inclusion. Ihsan defined that inclusion means” An environment that must allow for free and safe movement, function and access for all, regardless of age , sex or condition.

Any space , building, product, service as well as information are designed in a way to be accessible, usable , understandable and comfortable for all people without discrimination.. He told that if we exclude them from social participation they become despair and paralyzed .He said that persons with disabilities should be given full participation in education, health, sports and other social activities. At the end of the session he put forward many solutions for the inclusion and full participation of the person with disabilities in social activities.

CASE STUDY OF Mr.IHSAN DANISH AS A ROLE MODEL :

In 1998 Ihsan Danish has been struck by an accident. There friend was sit with him. There was a pistol in his friend’s hand. There friend considered that there is no bullet present in the pistol. So he was joking with Mr.Ihsan Danish to shot him. Unfortunately there was a bullet in the pistol and he fired him which straightly gone to his spinal card due to which he become paralyzed on both foot. After this incident he become disappointed and loss his heart. He thinks that I become disabled now and cannot do any work.

One of his friends started their counseling and encourages him. He told to him that you can do everything. He told him that there is a center name RCPD (rehabilitation center for physically disable persons) in Peshawar. He gone there and started physiotherapy. He also received a wheelchair from the center. He meets with other physically disabled persons which become his friends. He started a new life with disability. He realizes that he can do everything. He started to live a normal life. He started to play table tennis with friends. Later on he gone to Malaysia and won a trophy there and become champion of table tennis. He also appointed as (position??) in PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Limited).

He participated in one of the training “disability equality” organized by SPDA (Special Person Development Association) with the collaboration of U.S education foundation Pakistan (U.S embassy) at Peshawar. He told this whole story to the participants of the training. They appreciated his efforts and asked questions from him and he answered.
