Achieving 17 Goals (UN SDGs) for the
Future We Want
We want a society where needs of all the children are met, aspirations supported and their rights respected.
Estanara Group is working for the empowerment of PWDs through Advocacy and Awareness, providing platforms to promote the talented People with Disabilities (PWDs) of Pakistan and engaging them in sports and recreational activities.
Today, 20th November which is the Universal Children’s Day and we are all gathered here to speak for “Children of Pakistan” and will emphasize on “Children with disabilities in Pakistan” the most marginalized group which faces the highest level of discrimination.
According to the World Report on Disability approximately one billion people in the world are living with a disability, with at least 1 in 10 being children and 80% living in developing countries. Among marginalized groups, children with disabilities remain the most excluded, discriminated not only because of their disability but also because of lack of understanding and knowledge about its causes, implications and stigma.
Education is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of discrimination and poverty that children with disabilities often face.
Article 24: Education
People with disabilities have a right to education without discrimination. Countries must ensure that people with disabilities can access an inclusive, quality and free primary and secondary education in their own community. Countries must also provide reasonable accommodation and individualized support to maximize academic and social development.
Children experiencing multiple forms of discrimination, particularly girls with disabilities, face a double disadvantage, because of their disability and gender. Girls with disabilities are not only confronted with stigma but are also constrained by traditional gender roles and cultural barriers.
Children with disabilities are less likely to start school and if they do, they are unlikely to transition to secondary school. Access to school for children with disabilities is often limited by a lack of understanding about their needs, lack of teacher training, unconducive school environment, classroom support and learning resources and facilities.
Denying children with disabilities their right to education has a lifelong impact on learning, achievement and employment opportunities, hence hindering their potential economic, social and human development.
To ensure that all children enjoy their basic human rights without discrimination, disability inclusion should be mainstreamed in all policies and plans. This applies to education systems, which need to promote inclusion by ensuring the presence, participation and achievement of all children, including children with disabilities.
Estanara Group is striving hard to promote the Inclusion Education System for children with disabilities and to educate the Schools through their disability awareness programs, one of its ready to launch program is “Celebrating Abilities”.
Through this project we are trying to update the institutions (Schools, colleges and Universities) with inclusivity and disability awareness, our aim is to work over the Character building of youth through our specially designed sessions according to their age groups.
Article 30: Participation in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sport
People with disabilities have the right to take part in cultural life on an equal basis with others, including access to cultural materials, performances and services, and to recreational, leisure and sporting activities.
We would like to use this platform to announce our project “Celebrating Abilities” and an upcoming event “National Wheelchair Arm Wrestling Tournament” & Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Tournament 2016 on Friday 2nd December 2016 at KMC Sports Complex, Kashmir Road, Karachi. We will request our media to highlight its importance to the world, this could be a great support for us and the promotion of our project.
